Guy LaBonté, Chair of the Société Saint-Thomas-d'Aquin and Premier Wade MacLauchlan

The Rendez-vous de la Francophonie are an opportunity to show the vitality of Francophone and Francophile communities in Canada through a variety of French-language activities and events across the province, said Premier Wade MacLauchlan, minister responsible for Acadian and Francophone Affairs.

“Islanders are invited to take part in the festivities to celebrate the French language and its different cultural expressions. The Rendez-vous de la Francophonie offer a unique opportunity to showcase the Island’s vibrant Acadian and Francophone community.”

To mark its 20th edition, the Rendez-vous de la Francophonie will take place March 1 to 21, 2018 under the national theme of “La Francophonie in 3D: Diversity, Duality, and Dynamism!”  Islanders across the province will be able to celebrate the Francophonie thanks to a wide variety of events: educational games and activities, film showings, songs, shows and multicultural gatherings.

The official opening ceremony and reception for the Rendez-vous de la Francophonie will take place at Government House in Charlottetown on Thursday, March 1 at 10:30 am. The lieutenant-governor, the Honourable H. Antoinette Perry, and the organizers of the event will be present. In addition, the Acadian flag will fly at Province House for the duration of the celebrations.
