Province launches de minimis impact survey for Island businesses

December 16, 2025

Island businesses are invited to provide their feedback on changes to their export practices to the United States.

In light of continued economic uncertainty and following the Island business tariff impact survey conducted earlier this year, the province is launching another survey to better understand the impacts to Island business exports following the elimination of the de minimis rule.

“Many Island businesses have longstanding business relationships with American buyers, and the elimination of the de minimis rule has no doubt complicated getting PEI goods to US shoppers. We’re asking all Island small manufacturers, artisans, businesses to be part of the conversation such that provincial business supports are better tailored and responsive to current needs.”

— Darlene Compton, Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Trade

The survey will be open until January 31, 2026. Results will help inform how to realign or strengthen financial support programs for Island businesses seeking to maintain current US business relationships or diversify into new domestic or global markets.
