Public input wanted on beauty and personal care service regulations
The provincial government is inviting Island residents to share their feedback on the regulation of cosmetology practices in Prince Edward Island.
The Hairdressers Act currently regulates hairdressing services and has provided a foundation for the industry for many years. Other cosmetology services such as skincare, nail care, and makeup artistry are not currently covered under the legislation.
“PEI’s beauty industry has grown and diversified in recent years, reflecting a wide range of professional practices. Input from Islanders and collaboration with industry leaders will help guide the future direction of these professions and ensure the regulatory framework supports the needs of the sector and the general public.”
— Minister of Workforce, Advanced Learning and Population Jenn Redmond.
The province is reviewing the current legislation to determine whether updates or a new regulatory framework are needed to better reflect the full scope of cosmetology services offered in PEI today.
The public can provide feedback online through the cosmetology services survey until November 19, 2025. Residents requiring assistance with the survey can send an email to cynthiacormier@gov.pe.ca.
