Statement by Premier King

Hon. Dennis King, Premier of Prince Edward Island issued the following statement after the announcement by Hon. Wayne Easter that he will not be re-offering in the next federal election:

“On behalf of the Government of Prince Edward Island, I want to thank Wayne Easter for his 28 years of public service as the Member of Parliament for Malpeque.

Wayne has served as my local Member of Parliament for the last 17 years. As a political observer, I’ve watched Wayne since his first election in 1993 represent our province with dignity, respect, and integrity while ensuring the voices of Islanders were always heard in our nation's capital.

Wayne has been a strong advocate for rural communities and our fishing, farming, and tourism industries; he is also well known for being an impeccable constituency politician who never forgot the individuals who elected him.

Wayne has been a friend and ally to our government since 2019 - always willing to work collaboratively for the best interest of all Islanders.

I would like to wish Wayne, Helen, Kimberley, and Jamie and their grandchildren all the best in Wayne’s retirement from public life.”
