Submissions open for 2026 PEI Book Awards

January 5, 2026

Island-based authors, editors, and book creators are invited to submit their work for consideration for the 2026 PEI Book Awards.

The Prince Edward Island Book Awards recognize excellence in Island books and celebrate the contributions of local literary creators. Presented every two years, the awards honour outstanding books in four categories: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and children’s literature.

“The PEI Book Awards shine a spotlight on the incredible talent of Island writers. These awards honour the stories that enrich our communities and bring culture, history, and experiences to life.”

— Minister of Education and Early Years, Robin Croucher

Books published in 2024 or 2025 are eligible. Submissions may be in English or French, must be first editions, and may have been published anywhere in the world. Authors, editors, or creators must have been permanent residents of Prince Edward Island during the eligibility period.

Submissions are assessed by an independent jury based on quality of writing, social and cultural merit, and originality of content, approach, and technique. One award will be presented in each category. Each award includes a cash prize, a handcrafted commemorative gift, and a specially designed seal for display on the award-winning book.

The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2026.

A shortlist of three titles in each category will be released in early May 2026, with winners announced at an awards ceremony in Spring 2026.
