WorkPEI connects employers with the talent they need

Amber James at Work PEI

Creating jobs for Islanders -

When Road Trax -- a Kensington company that provides maintenance for the trucking industry – needed to fill a long-standing vacancy, staff turned to WorkPEI.

Road Trax had been advertising for four months to fill a mechanics position, with no success. But shortly after meeting with Amber James, WorkPEI’s community engagement officer, Road Trax office manager Jane Boone found two qualified candidates. Both were registered in WorkPEI’s online database and now one of them has a job at Road Trax.

“I’m not really a computer person, but Amber showed me how to use the system and we were able to come up with some people right away,” Jane said. “I was able to reach one and arrange an interview; he’s been with us for a few months now and has just been a great person to have in our business.”

WorkPEI specializes in connecting skilled people with businesses in need. They help job seekers by allowing them to create online resumes, searchable by hundreds of employers looking to fill vacancies on PEI. Job seekers also find it convenient to use their online resume to apply to jobs.

Employers post vacancies to WorkPEI’s job board, which are shared to WorkPEI’s Facebook and Twitter channels, which have 12,000 followers (and are still growing).

“When I see a company is advertising for workers I will often approach them and offer to meet so I can show them how using the WorkPEI portal can help fill their vacancies,” Amber said.

The database allows a business seeking talent to specify the criteria they are looking for, then quickly find possible candidates among WorkPEI’s bank of resumes. The pool of talent includes Islanders, Canadians interested in work on Prince Edward Island, and even some international job seekers.

“WorkPEI is an ideal tool for many employer situations – whether it is a small or medium-sized business that doesn’t have a human resources person, or a large enterprise where the HR department is located at their headquarters in Toronto,” Amber James said. “It provides employers across all industries a means to advertise positions, manage applications and source talent.”
