Conservation officers patrol the Province of PEI to monitor, preserve and protect our Island’s wildlife and natural resources. They conduct investigations and respond to reports from the public about potential violations under many pieces of provincial and federal legislation. You could encounter a conservation officer anywhere on PEI, including highways, beaches, riverbanks, or trails.

What should I report to a conservation officer?

To report something you believe is a violation, including poaching, illegal dumping or an environmental concern, leave a detailed message anytime at 902-368-4884 or use the online form below to provide as much detail as possible about the issue.

You can report incidents of poaching, illegal dumping or tips on illegal activity related to wildlife and the environment, including:

  • Angling (Recreational) - Trout, salmon
  • Beaches and Dunes - Motor vehicles on beach/dune, beach access, sand removal
  • Confederation Trail - Motor vehicles on trail, damage to trail, dogs off leash, other
  • Environmental - Littering/dumping, discharge of a contaminant, improper disposal of construction and demolition material, other
  • Fires and Burning - Open burning/air quality (garbage, etc.), fire closure order
  • Habitat - Natural areas, buffer zones, wildlife management areas
  • Hunting - Migratory birds, ruffed grouse, coyote, red fox, snowshoe hare, raccoon, Hungarian partridge
  • Off-Highway Vehicles - Dirt bikes, four-wheelers/ATVs, side-by-sides, snowmobiles
  • Trapping - Coyote, beaver, muskrat, mink, red fox, raccoon
  • Trespassing
  • Watercourses and Wetlands - Fish kills, buffer zones, water quality, erosion
  • Wildlife in Captivity

What kinds of violations or incidents should I report to other authorities?

  • Call 911 in an emergency such as a fire, crime, or danger to life.
  • Commercial or Other Fisheries (Oyster, smelt, lobster, crab, clams, Striped Bass, mackerel, groundfish, etc.) – Department of Fisheries and Oceans at 902-566-7827.
  • Criminal Matters/Highway Traffic incidents (non-emergency) – RCMP at 902-368-9300 or your local municipal police.
  • Distressed, Injured or Nuisance Wildlife – Fish and Wildlife at 902-368-4683.
  • Livestock/Animal Welfare – Department of Agriculture at 902-368-4880.
  • Marine pollution or a hazardous spill on land/water – Coast Guard at 1-800-565-1633
  • Pesticide/Agricultural, Excavation Pits, Wastewater, Sewage, etc.  - Department Environment, Energy and Climate Action at 902-368-5044.

What information will I need to provide?

To assist with a successful investigation, provide as much information as possible about the violation, including a clear explanation of the situation or incident, where and when you saw it, a description of any individuals, vehicles or equipment involved, if applicable, and photos that may help our investigation.

If you choose to provide your name and contact information, it will be available to the officers only, to be used to communicate with you about the potential violation you reported. Conservation officers also respond to tips reported through Crime Stoppers if you wish to remain fully anonymous.
