Public input sought on combative sport legislation

November 10, 2025

The Government of Prince Edward Island is seeking public input on proposed legislation that would regulate professional and amateur boxing, kick-boxing and mixed martial arts events across the province.

The Combative Sport Commissioner Act would create a clear legal framework for these professional sporting events and exhibitions and could also expand the types of amateur events permitted. The legislation aims to protect participants, ensure proper oversight of organizers and governing bodies, and align with best practices in other provinces.

“These sporting events are becoming more popular, and we need modern legislation to support safe, well-regulated events. We want to hear from athletes, coaches, promoters, medical professionals, spectators, and all Islanders interested in how these sporting events and exhibitions should be governed in our province.”

— Minister of Fisheries, Tourism, Sport and Culture, Zack Bell

Islanders are encouraged to review the discussion paper and share their feedback by emailing consultFTSC@gov.pe.ca. The consultation is open until December 5, 2025. All input will be considered to help shape the legislation being introduced and ensure it reflects the values and priorities of Islanders.
