2026 Seniors Community Meal Grant

The Department of Social Development and Seniors (SDS) is committed to finding ways to promote access to healthy meals and reduce social isolation for seniors. The Seniors Community Meal Grant provides funding to eligible organizations to assist with the costs of providing free, communal meals to seniors.

The Seniors Community Meal Grant helps to create new community meal programs or increase capacity in existing community meal programs for seniors. Meals must be free for seniors and can be provided at a one-time event or at re-occurring events. 

Is my organization eligible to apply?

The following are examples of organizations that are eligible to apply:

  • Clubs and organizations that serve seniors and/or Indigenous elders.
  • Non-profit organizations.
  • Community-based coalitions and networks.
  • Municipal governments.

Where can my organization prepare the meals?

Meals must be prepared in a location with a valid provincial food permit. Organizations must also receive prior approval from facilities used to prepare and host meals. 

How many applications can my organization submit?

Organizations can submit one application, requesting up to $5,000.00.

Is there anything that my organization needs to do before applying?

Prior to applying, organizations should review the Seniors Community Meal Grant funding guidelines. Applications that do not adhere to the guidelines will not be considered for funding. 

How can my organization apply?

Organizations must use the Seniors Community Meal Grant application template to apply for funding.

When is the deadline for applications?

Applications for the 2026-2027 funding cycle must be submitted by Monday, March 9, 2026, at 4:00pm.

When will I know if my organization is receiving funding?

All applicants, whether successful or not, will be notified by letter and/or email regarding the funding decision. These notifications are expected to occur by June 30, 2026. 

How do I find out where community meals are being held?

A list of upcoming community meals is included below. For any questions or to register for a particular meal event, seniors are encouraged to contact the organization hosting the meal directly.
