Apply for an Electrical Permit
This is the online application for an electrical services permit in PEI. A separate permit is necessary for each work site requiring electrical service. You must be an electrical contractor licensed to work in PEI in order to get an electrical permit.
What information do I need to apply online?
Each permit application may require the following information:
- Business contact information
- Prince Edward Island Electrical Contractor License Number
- Job information – property identification number, building permit number, service order number and inspection date
- Service and fees – service type, phase, amperes volts and fees
How long will it take to complete this permit application?
The application process will take 5-25 minutes to complete depending on the size of the construction project.
What is the fee for an electrical permit?
The cost of an electrical permit is dependent on the type of installation, as well as the ampacity (maximum current measured in amperes) of the consumer's service. The appropriate fees are listed in Electrical Unit Schedule of Fees.
Where do I find my permit number?
Once your on-line payment has been received you will be provided with a printable receipt, which will include your permit number. For example: Application for Electrical Permit 213-807.
What else do I need to know?
You must provide the inspector a minimum 48 hours notice of a completed service.
In accordance with the Environmental Protection Act, once a completed electrical system has been inspected and approved, the electrical contractor shall issue to the owner a Certificate of compliance certifying that the work has been carried out in compliance with the Code.
Permits must only be submitted by an Electrical Contractor holding a valid licence.
