What you need when applying to be a PEI Foster Caregiver

This is an online application form for PEI Foster Care Program.

What do I need to complete this application online?

  • You will need provide identification for yourself and family members living under the same roof.
  • You will need to provide your current contact information.
  • Your education and employment history
  • Any addresses in the past 5 years you have lived that have been outside Prince Edward Island.

If you have parented outside of Prince Edward Island, consent will be required to do a Child Protection background check in those provinces.

How long does it take to complete this application?

You should be able to complete this application in about 15 minutes.

What will happen after I apply?

Once your application is received, a resource social worker will contact you to discuss next steps in the assessment process.

Is there anything else I should know before applying?

After the application has been submitted and you wish to withdraw from the process, written or verbal notice can be made to the department.

Foster caregivers are required to a) own their home or b) if renting, have written permission from their landlord to Foster in the home.

Children in care require their own bedroom that is not shared with any members of the foster family.

Criminal Background Check, Vulnerable Sector and Child protection Background Checks are required from applicants and any other adults living in the home.
