Two bridge replacements begin in PEI

The Province is taking steps to ensure traffic flows safely and efficiently while two rural bridges are replaced this year. Construction on the bridges will begin on Monday, April 22, 2024. 

In Prince County, the Cains Bridge on Route 2 near Bloomfield Provincial Park will be replaced. Two-lane, two-way traffic will be available throughout construction. 

In Kings County, the Bridgetown Bridge on Seven Mile Road – Route 4 near Dundas is also due for replacement. Traffic will be in one lane and controlled by traffic lights. 

To help keep traffic moving smoothly, each location will have a temporary bridge open in June 2024.  They will have separate lanes for pedestrians and cyclists and accommodate vehicles up to 3.2 m wide. 

The temporary bridges will remain in place until the new structures open in December 2024. Site work will continue in the spring of 2025.

Motorists should slow down, use caution, obey signs, and traffic signals. There may be occasional traffic delays for equipment and supplies to access the construction sites.
