Pesticide Applicator Exams

Le contenu suivant est seulement disponible en anglais.

You must successfully complete a written exam to obtain a pesticide applicator certificate. This allows you to apply a commercial, restricted or manufacturing class pesticide. A pass mark of 75 per cent is required. All pesticide exams are administered by the Department.

What are the requirements?

You should be 18 years of age to write the pesticide applicator exam. However, you cannot get a certificate until you are 18 years of age. There is no fee to write the exam but the certificate fee of $75 is collected at the time the exam is written.

What do I need to do to write an exam?

Before writing a pesticide exam, you need to:

  • study the training material specific to your work or business;
  • review the exam schedule and select an exam date and location that works for you; and
  • contact the Department of Communities, Land and Environment at (902) 368-5599 to register for a date and time.

What are the fees?

$75 is the cost of a pesticide applicator certificate. There is no HST. The fee must be paid before the certificate will be issued.

Payment can be made by cash or cheque. Cheques must be made payable to the Minister of Finance. Credit card or debit is also accepted at all Access PEI locations and the Jones Building, 4th Floor 11 Kent Street.

Where can I find training material for the exam?

On-line training material is available to help you study for a pesticide applicator certificate exam. Printed copies can be purchased from the Department of Communities, Land and Environment.

Are training courses available?

Yes, but only if you are writing an agricultural (Class A) exam. A one-day course focusing on the proper handling, storage and use of pesticides are held annually in January, February and March. Immediately following this course, you can write your exam. Contact the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries at 1-866-PEI-FARM (1-866-734-3276) or pesticidetraining@gov.pe.ca for more information on the next available course and to register.
