Licensed Practical Nursing and Paramedic Support Program
The Licensed Practical Nursing and Paramedic support program was developed as one of the initiatives to address the shortages within the healthcare sector. The program will provide financial assistance, including 100% tuition support for the school year to eligible individuals to help them complete a post-secondary certificate or diploma and commit to working in Prince Edward Island.
Who is Eligible to Participate?
If you live in Prince Edward Island and are unemployed, underemployed or self-employed and lack the necessary skills to secure sustainable employment you may be eligible to participate in this program.
You are eligible to apply if you are:
- legally authorized to work in Canada (Canadian citizen or permanent resident); or
- a protected person within the meaning of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
- other criteria may apply
How Do I Apply?
- To determine suitability and to apply for financial assistance, you must meet with a case manager to complete a needs assessment and develop a Return-to-Work Action Plan. - Apply for one of the upcoming programs at a Prince Edward Island post-secondary institution.
When is my Application Due?
You must submit your application package and receive confirmation from SkillsPEI that you have been approved for the program before your course starts.
How Does the Program Work?
All eligible Prince Edward Island residents who are enrolled and participating in a Practical Nursing, Primary Care Paramedicine and Advanced Care Paramedicine training program at a PEI post-secondary institution starting after January 1, 2023, SkillsPEI will pay 100% tuition support. You may also be eligible to receive financial supports while participating in training.
Applicants who are approved and receive 100% tuition support must work in the occupation related to their field of study in Prince Edward Island for 2 years upon graduating from their program.
