Small Grants Program for Sports

The Small Grants Program is intended to encourage and support organizations to look at new initiatives that will encourage greater sport participation and leadership in under-represented and marginalized populations. The program will encourage strategic partnerships.

What is an under-represented or marginalized group?

Under-represented groups on PEI include individuals with a physical and/or intellectual disabilities, disadvantaged youth, vulnerable populations, minority groups (Aboriginals, Acadians, Newcomers), women and girls in coaching and leadership positions, and under-represented males or females within a sport, for example girls in baseball or boys in figure skating. This list is not complete.

Who is eligible to apply to the Small Grants Program?

Member Clubs and Associations

To provide assistance to sport clubs and associations, which must be a member of their respective provincial sport organization (PSO), for new or enhanced projects that encourage and support increased participation, athlete development, coach development, volunteer development, and official development for local grass root activities in sport for under-represented or marginalized populations on PEI.

Not for Profit

To provide assistance to not-for-profit organizations, municipalities, provincial sport organizations, etc. for new or enhanced activities or programs, which support a vision of getting under-represented Islanders active in sport, recreation, or physical activity.

Girls and Women

To provide assistance for girls and women in leadership positions in sport such as coaching and officiating.

How much funding is available through the program?

Normally, funding is a maximum of $1,000. Projects that are provincial in scope, innovative, and demonstrate a need could be eligible for up to $3,000.

For what purposes can I use the funding?

Funding can be used for including program design and delivery of instructor clinic fees, equipment, facility rental, and promotions and communications. The funding may also be used for coach or instructor development opportunities.

How do I apply for the for a grant?

Complete the Small Grant Application Form and submit it to the contacts included on the form.

What is the deadline to apply?

The fund has an open intake until February 1, 2025 or until it has reached its budget capacity for fiscal year 2024-25. 

Is there a fee to apply?

There is no fee to apply.
