Annual Fall Frolic’s proceeds go to MacIntyre House

Islanders can run through one of the province’s most scenic woodlots this weekend to support increased mental health services.
The 18th annual Provincial Forest Fall Frolic cross-country run is this Saturday, October 7 at the New Harmony Demonstration Woodlot near Souris. All proceeds will go to MacIntyre House, a home in Souris for adult men with intellectual disabilities.
“The Fall Frolic is an exciting, scenic run that attracts runners from across the Maritimes,” said Communities, Land and Environment Minister Robert Mitchell, whose department is hosting the run along with the PEI Roadrunner’s Club. “Rolling hills create a challenging route while the fall colours of Prince Edward Island act as a backdrop like no other.”
Participants can walk or run the 4.5 kilometre or 13.2 kilometre trails. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and costs $15 for those aged 16 and older -- and is free for anyone under 16. The registration fee includes entrance gifts, draw prizes, healthy snacks, and a post-race barbecue.
"The frolic provides the perfect venue for individuals and families to decompress in a beautiful and wholesome surrounding,” said Kim Bailey, co-director of the Roadrunner's Club. “The opportunity to provide a run of this calibre provides an excellent opportunity to experience the beauty of autumn leaves and the thrill of cross country running.”
There are more than 38 kilometres of trails in the provincial forests across the province, including those at the New Harmony Demonstration Woodlot.
"The Provincial Forest Fall Frolic promises to be a very exciting cross country run in one of PEI’s most scenic woodlots," said Kevin Brothers, provincial forest supervisor-east and race co-director. "Staff of the provincial forests have partnered with many community groups over the years and have developed six demonstration woodlots with self-guided educational trails that offer many potential uses."
