Island students and educators are encouraged to take part in activities that strengthen digital skills and promote safer, more responsible online behaviour.

Taking place October 27-31, the Government of Prince Edward Island officially recognizes Media Literacy Week. The bilingual national initiative brings together classrooms, libraries, museums, and community organizations to explore how media and digital technologies influence people’s daily lives.

“Equipping children and youth with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate today’s ever-changing digital world responsibly and respectfully is essential. By teaching critical thinking, healthy screen habits, and media awareness, we are helping students become more thoughtful and safe citizens online.”

— Minister of Education and Early Years, Robin Croucher.

Island schools continue to integrate digital literacy into classrooms through various partnerships and activities. This includes the use of MediaSmarts resources within grade 5 and 6 English integrated curriculum and promoting those resources in French language programs. Students are also encouraged to participate in initiatives such as STEAM PEI’s CyberTitans competition and Hour of Code activities.
