Logan MacDougall

Logan MacDougall will carry the Prince Edward Island flag during the 2017 Canada Summer Games opening ceremony this week.

MacDougall will participate in baseball during week one and indoor volleyball for week two of the July 28 to August 13 games in Winnipeg – visit  Canada Games TV for the event broadcast schedule. The opening ceremony will be this Friday, July 28 at 9 p.m. and broadcast live from Winnipeg’s Bell MTS Place.

“To be named the flag bearer for PEI is a huge honour for me – it's very special because I'm representing much more than myself, my team and my city – I get to represent the entire province,” MacDougall said. “I put on the PEI uniform in any sport I play and wear it with a ton of pride, much like any athlete on Team PEI.

“I'm thrilled to be given the opportunity to represent all these great Island athletes at the Canada Games!"

MacDougall is the 17-year-old son of Dale and Krista MacDougall of Summerside. He is a three-time Male Athlete of the Year from Three Oaks High School and the 2016 Volleyball PEI U16 Male Athlete of the Year.

He has represented PEI at the Baseball Nationals from 2013 to 2016. MacDougall is a Sport PEI 2016-17 scholarship recipient, 2017 Craswell-MacLean Memorial Bursary winner from Baseball PEI, and will be attending the University of Calgary in the fall to play baseball. His younger brother Ben is also playing on the baseball and indoor volleyball teams at the 2017 Canada Games.

“Logan and the entire Team PEI delegation have worked long and hard to prepare for these games,” Health and Wellness Minister Robert Henderson said. “We are so proud of the skill and determination of our athletes, coaches and mission staff who are great ambassadors from our province to the rest of the country. Good luck and let the games begin!”

Team PEI’s delegation numbers 316 individuals including 231 athletes, 60 coaches, managers and support staff, and 15 mission staff.  For more information about Team PEI and to follow their progress as they compete in 15 sports, visit  Team PEI.
