The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) has lifted visitor restrictions on Unit 8 (general medical and acute stroke unit) as patients recover from gastro-intestinal illness and influenza.

Even with restrictions lifted, everyone coming to the hospital -- including visitors and persons coming in for tests, X-rays or ambulatory procedures -- should practice good hand hygiene to prevent the spread of illness. This includes cleaning their hands upon entering and leaving a patient’s room, department, and the hospital. Alcohol hand rinse stations are available throughout the facility for this purpose.

The QEH initiated restrictions on April 30 due to 10 patients experiencing symptoms of gastro-intestinal illness or influenza.

QEH officials express their appreciation for Islanders’ patience while visitor restrictions were in place. While visiting family and friends plays a vital role in a patient’s healing and recovery, the QEH’s priority is to protect the health and safety of patients, staff, and visitors alike.
