Burn Restrictions

Recreational campfires are currently allowed, with permission of the property owner and subject to local bylaws.

For Category 1 fires, you must check the burn restrictions below before you may burn. You may also call 1-800-237-5053 to check the burning restrictions for the current day.

For Category 2,3, or 4 fires, you must hold a valid burn permit, and you must check the Fire Weather Index (FWI) before you may burn.

View the Categories of Outdoor Fires page for details on the various categories of fire.

Check current burn restrictions below before starting a category 1 fire. You may only burn if restrictions allow. Category 1 fires are not permitted between 8am and 2pm.

If you have a permit for a Category 2,3 or 4, please check the Fire Weather Index prior to burning.

Always check your municipal bylaws, or contact your municipal office, before doing any type of burning. Your municipality may have a burning restriction that overrides the provincial burning map restrictions.

These restrictions are updated daily at 2pm during fire season from March 15 to November 30, inclusive. They are not updated from December 1 to March 14.
