Canadian Physiotherapy Associations Centenary Medal of Distinction Award – Angela Carragher

Angela Carragher, PhysiotherapistHealth PEI physiotherapist Angela Carragher has been recognized by a national professional association for excellence in her service to Islanders.

The Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) created the centenary Medals of Distinction in 2020 to celebrate the association’s 100th anniversary. The centenary Medals of Distinction recognizes over one hundred individuals who have had a significant and meaningful impact on the physiotherapy profession.

The CPA medals honour those who have made an impact on the Physiotherapy profession between 1920 to 2020 and have been leaders, role models, and innovators that go above and beyond to contribute to their profession.

Angela Carragher began her profession after graduating at Dalhousie University in 1988 receiving her Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy. Angela returned to PEI shortly after graduation to complete her student program in three hospitals – Alberton, O’leary and Tyne Valley. 33 years later, as one of the most senior Physiotherapists on PEI, Angela has made impact in a variety of areas such as acute care, long term care, home care and in community hospitals.

“My goal has always been to leave my position having made things a little better than when I started,” says Angela Carragher. “It is rewarding to help create strong teams that can weather all storms. Each year I get to see new physiotherapists join our team and I love to watch them grow and develop as they continue in their career. “

Today, Angela is the Rehabilitation Services Supervisor for Prince County Hospital and Hospital Services West. The Canadian Physiotherapy Association has selected Angela as a recipient of the centenary Medals of Distinction for her tremendous leadership and collaborative approach as she continues to provide care for Prince Edward Island.
