What is the Legislative Counsel Office?
The mission of the Legislative Counsel Office is to draft and coordinate the publication of Acts and regulations for the Government of Prince Edward Island.
What services and functions does the Legislative Counsel Office provide?
The Legislative Counsel Office is responsible for the following services and functions:
- drafting bills and regulations for government;
- drafting house amendments to bills for government;
- drafting private bills
- providing legal advice to government respecting legislation;
- providing legal advice to the Cabinet Committee on Policy and Priorities respecting legislation;
- maintaining the printed and electronic records of the legislation of Prince Edward Island, including:
- updating the electronic database of consolidated statutes and regulations of PEI as new or amending statutes and regulations are enacted and come into force;
- updating the Table of Public Acts and the Table of Regulations as new or amending statutes and regulations are enacted and come into force;
- maintaining the Legislative Counsel Office website;
- preparing the Annual Volume of the Statutes of PEI for printing;
- indexing the Private Acts of the Assembly.
