Health PEI activates masking protective measures starting October 14
In response to increased respiratory illness activity on the Island, Health PEI is implementing a masking policy in all its facilities which goes into effect Tuesday, October 14.
Masks will be available onsite at all entrances to Health PEI facilities.
“Health PEI took great care in making this decision. Masking helps us to prevent the spread of respiratory illness for ourselves and for others. Taking these proactive steps will help ensure we stay in front of respiratory illness season and keep the system stable.”
— Lara MacMurdo, Health PEI’s Director Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness
Under the activated Respiratory Illness Management Policy, members of the public, including visitors and partners in care, will be required to wear a mask when within two metres of any Health PEI patient or resident.
Health PEI staff have guidelines for when they may remove their masks. Staff will also adhere to current infection control procedures, including proper hand hygiene, staying home when ill and reporting any respiratory illness to their manager or supervisor. All Health PEI staff are strongly encouraged to get their up-to-date COVID and Influenza immunizations.
Health PEI will update the masking policy as soon as it is safe to do so.
