Proposals for new seniors housing sought

Investing in infrastructure -

The provincial government invites proposals from developers to build at least 30 new affordable seniors housing units in Charlottetown.

This project is part of $5.2 million in federal funding received through the Investment in Affordable Housing Agreement, which is allocated for new seniors units in areas of most need. The units will be completed and available for rental by March 31, 2019.

"This important development project will increase the supply of affordable housing for Island seniors and help those waiting for seniors housing in the Charlottetown area,” Family and Human Services Minister Tina Mundy said. “Housing is a priority for government, and this project is one of many initiatives underway to improve social housing options in the province.”

Full details of the Request for Proposals requirements are available online at www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/tenders  The deadline for submitting proposals is March 2, 2018.

In addition to this project, government continues to look at more ways to collaborate with municipalities, private developers, and communities to meet the current and future housing needs of Islanders. For example:

  • a team of housing experts and clients was assembled to help create a provincial housing action plan; and
  • a housing supply task force was established to inform the work of the team and identify innovative approaches to address housing challenges across the province.
