Province supporting New Brunswick flood relief

Prince Edward Island is supporting New Brunswick flood relief efforts with volunteers and financial assistance – and there are many more ways Islanders can give.
Canadian Red Cross volunteers from the province have arranged emergency shelter for nearly 300 people displaced by flooding, and more Islanders are prepared to go if needed. In addition, the provincial government is donating $25,000 to the Red Cross relief efforts.
For the next two weeks, PEI Liquor retail stores across the province will accept donations to support the relief efforts. Islanders can also donate online at, by texting FLOODS to 30333 to make a $10 donation, by calling 1-800-418-1111, or by contacting your local Canadian Red Cross office.
“We applaud the Red Cross for their hard work and compassion as they respond to the needs of those impacted by the flooding,” Premier Wade MacLauchlan said. “It is the Island way to help our neighbours in times of need, and our hearts are with our friends in New Brunswick as they begin to clean up, rebuild, and persevere.”
The Canadian Red Cross has registered more than 2,093 adults and children from nearly 925 households as having been evacuated or otherwise affected by the flooding. It has been working closely with local authorities to respond to those impacted by flooding such as registering evacuees, arranging emergency lodging and food where required, and providing financial assistance.
“Our PEI team was among the first to deploy volunteers to assist with flood relief efforts in New Brunswick,” said Bill Lawlor, Canadian Red Cross provincial director for New Brunswick and interim provincial director for Prince Edward Island. “This significant financial contribution from the Government of Prince Edward Island is deeply appreciated and will be used to provide much-needed financial assistance to those most severely impacted by the flooding.”
