Statement from Premier Dennis King on Human Rights Day

Hon. Dennis King, Premier of Prince Edward Island, issued the following statement on Human Rights Day:

“Every year, for over 70 years, we have recognized December 10 as Human Rights Day. It is a day that underscores what we all know – that we are all equals, we are all worthy, and that we all deserve dignity.

This year’s Human Rights Day theme aims to reduce inequalities so that we can continue the necessary work of advancing human rights for citizens here and around the world. It is our collective call to action to address discrimination in all its forms against marginalized and racialized peoples, and to look for tangible solutions to give everyone a fair chance to reach their fullest potential.

No matter where we come from, where we live, or what we do, we all should have access to the same opportunities for success. That is why I am encouraging everyone to do our individual and collective duty to reject discrimination. Instead, we must work together so that we can build the most resilient, healthy and safe communities for all Island residents.”
