Visitor precautions at long-term care facilities

February 19, 2019

Visitor precautions have been put in place at Summerset Manor in Summerside due to the presence of gastro-intestinal illness. At the same time, precautions are being lifted at Wedgewood Manor in Summerside and at Beach Grove Home in Charlottetown which had previously been restricted due to gastro-intestinal illness.

Health PEI asks that visitors to any of our long-term care facilities stay home if they are feeling unwell to prevent the further spread of illness to residents.

It is extremely important that everyone going into long-term care facilities and hospitals clean their hands before and after entering a patient’s room, a department, and upon entering and leaving the facility.  Alcohol hand rinse stations are available throughout health care facilities for this purpose.

The situation will be reassessed as more information becomes available. A further update will be provided at that time.
