Week celebrates teachers and staff

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week February 13 to 17

This week Islanders are encouraged to thank teachers and staff for supporting our Island’s children and youth.

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week February 13 to 17 recognizes teachers, administrators, and staff for the contributions they make to the lives of students. Parents and students recognize the week in many different ways. The PEI Home and School Federation will present its Extra Mile Awards to two teachers or staff in the Public Schools Branch who go the “extra mile” for their students.

“Every day teachers go above and beyond to help our students succeed, and custodians, educational assistants, and bus drivers all play a vital role in developing a positive learning environment,” Education, Early Learning and Culture Minister Doug Currie said. “The entire staff makes the school, and we thank them all for helping give the next generation of Islanders the best education possible.”

There are approximately 2,430 teachers and staff working in Island schools.

“Whether it’s through the tools they use or the relationships they cultivate, our teachers and staff help our students and their families feel safe, welcomed, cared for, engaged, and included,” said Parker Grimmer, director of the Public Schools Branch. . “Thank you teachers and staff for the amazing work you do to advance minds and inspire confidence in all students.”

“Acknowledging and appreciating teachers and staff is extremely important considering the role they play in enriching the lives of children both in and out of the classroom,” said Anne Bernard-Bourgeois, director of La Commission scolaire de langue française. “The school system offers an education beyond academics, which is why we are grateful to our staff for supporting students in their social growth and development.”
