Diversity and Inclusion Strategy 2022-2025

The new Diversity and Inclusion Strategy 2022-2025 PEI positions the Public Service Commission as the employer of choice and a leader in shaping the future of the civil service workforce. Since 2002, when the first Diversity and Inclusion Policy was launched, Prince Edward Island’s population has experienced tremendous growth becoming globalized and widely interconnected. In 2019, a new Diversity and Inclusion Policy was inaugurated to guide the Public Service Commission, government departments and agencies in ensuring that the civil service workforce is representative of the Island population it serves. The inclusion concept mandated fostering a culture of conscious inclusion where individuals with different identities, backgrounds, talents, beliefs and experiences feel they belong.

Through committed leadership, the Public Service Commission continues to conduct research on diversity and inclusion best practices that broaden the scope of diversity to encompass new and emerging identities; offers cultural awareness training as part of the professional development learning opportunities to raise staff awareness on the benefits of inclusive teams; and supports departments in developing their own diversity and inclusion plans and programs. The PSC is committed to strengthening working relationships with community groups serving diverse groups and members on Prince Edward Island and oversees the implementation of the Diversity and Inclusion Policy 2019 goals across government departments and agencies.

The Public Service Commission is pleased to present the 2022-2025 Diversity and Inclusion Strategy which provides a framework for the implementation of the Diversity and Inclusion Policy goals with the aim of:

  • Building an Inclusive and Diverse Public Service;
  • Establishing a Safe and Inclusive Culture; and
  • Ensuring Inclusive and Diverse Innovative Practices

The PSC recognizes and acknowledges the internal and external stakeholders that have contributed to the development of this work. Your continued engagement will be key to this diversity and inclusion work in the future and the Public Service Commission’s commitment in ensuring that respect, integrity, accountability, and excellence continue to be the values that shape the future of our Island leaders and workforce.
