Check Fire Weather Index Online

Fire Season

Fire season runs from March 15 to November 15. During this period, burning permits are required for outdoor burning. Many Island communities  have their own burning regulations. Find more information in Burning Permits.

Even with a burning permit, you are responsible to check that conditions are safe for burning.

From December 1st to March 14th inclusive:

  • Domestic Burning Permits are not required
  • the daily Fire Weather Index site is not updated
  • the reporting phone numbers are not operational .

How do I know if conditions are safe for an open fire?

Before you begin to burn:

  • Consult your burning permit for conditions.
  • Check current weather and wind conditions.
  • Check the Fire Weather Index for your region.
