PEI Marketing Council

The PEI Marketing Council supervises the creation and operation of producer boards, commissions and groups that regulate and control the production, sale, processing, marketing, transportation and pricing of natural products. Council recommends the establishment, amendment, or revocation of regulations to Executive Council, provides advice to commodity boards, conducts commodity board elections and plebiscites, advises the Minister and acts as liaison with national and other provincial agencies.

What is the function of the council?

The Council is responsible for the general supervision of commodity boards, marketing commissions and commodity groups, and provides legislative and regulatory advice.

How many people are on the council?

The Council shall consist of not less than three persons and not more than eight persons appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council.

What are the requirements of council members?

Work & Experience Requirements
A background in agriculture, fisheries or aquaculture, an understanding of the food marketplace, or marketing board experience, would be definite assets.

Skills Required
The ability to make sound decisions based on information provided. Mediation and regulatory skills would be useful.

What are the nomination requirements?

Statutory Nomination Requirements
The Lieutenant Governor in Council shall appoint all members.

Will I get paid?

Chair - $200/diem and Members - $142/diem.

What is the time commitment of the council?

Monthly meetings and members of the board may be appointed to hold office for a term of three years and may be re-appointed.
