As we enter respiratory illness season, Islanders are encouraged to get vaccinated against influenza (flu) and COVID-19 to protect themselves and their communities. And for the first time this year, adults in the community ages 75 and over can get vaccinated against RSV. Vaccination is a proven way to reduce the spread of these illnesses and keep communities healthy.
“Vaccines continue to be one of the best tools we have to prevent these illnesses. I encourage all Islanders, especially those at higher risk of being hospitalized, to take advantage of the free vaccines being offered this fall.”
— Minister of Health and Wellness Mark McLane
The flu and COVID-19 vaccines are available to all Islanders aged six months and older. Both vaccines are free and can be accessed through family doctors, nurse practitioners, community pharmacies, and Public Health Nursing.
“Getting vaccinated against flu and COVID-19 helps protect you, your family, and your community. I encourage everyone to make their appointments early to protect themselves, their loved ones, and their community.”
— Dr. Heather Morrison, Chief Public Health Officer
This year, RSV protection is also available for infants and seniors aged 75 and older through Public Health Nursing. This builds on last year’s expansion of RSV protection to residents of long-term care and community care homes.
To book a vaccination, Islanders can:
- Call Public Health Nursing toll-free: 1-844-975-3303
