New Health PEI CEO
Denise Lewis Fleming has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the province’s health authority, Health PEI.
Ms. Lewis Fleming has been Acting CEO since May of 2018, and brings extensive strategic, operational and policy development experience to the position.
“Denise has done an outstanding job as Acting CEO and I am confident she will continue to thrive and provide the necessary leadership to move our system forward,” said Health and Wellness Minister Robert Mitchell.
“With over 26 years of experience in the public service, Denise’s’ knowledge and understanding of our health care system will ensure a smooth transition, which is important as we continue to build a system that provides Islanders with access to quality health care services where and when they need it most,” added Minister Mitchell. “I want to thank Denise for her past and continued service, and I look forward to ongoing collaboration with both the CEO and the Board of Directors”.

I am confident that Denise, given her expertise and experience, will continue to be a tremendous leader and innovator for our health authority.”
Health PEI is Prince Edward Island’s single health authority, responsible for the delivery of publicly funded health services across the province. The CEO provides strategic leadership to ongoing system transformation and ensures the continued organizational focus on quality, patient safety, and continuous improvement.

Denise Lewis Fleming has been Interim Chief Executive Officer of Health PEI since May 2018. Prior to this appointment, she was the Chief Operating Officer of Health PEI whose portfolio included fiscal planning, internal audit, comptrollership, materials management, health information and Pharmacare Programs.
An alumna of UPEI’s Bachelor of Business Administration program, Dalhousie University’s Master of Public Administration (MPA) program and the 2017 Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference, Denise is a Chartered Professional Accountant (Chartered Accountant) with twenty-six years of public service experience in PEI. Since January 2009, she has been employed as a senior leader in the health care sector, participating in the development and promotion of Health PEI’s broad goals and priorities, as well as the translation of goals and priorities to objectives, guidelines, policies, core programs and standards. Her previous experience in PEI public sector includes working at the Auditor General's office, the PEI Public Service Commission and the Department of Provincial Treasury.
Denise lives in Winsloe with her husband, Brian, and has family spread across PEI from Tignish to St. Peter’s Bay.
