Nursing Student Summer Employment Program - Facility Application

Health care facilities across the Island offer summer employment opportunities for 3rd year nursing students to work in the public health care sector.

Is my health care facility eligible to apply?

A public health care facility can provide a summer employment opportunity for one or more nursing students to gain meaningful work experience that will strengthen their nursing career is eligible to apply. 

Summer full-time work placements (37.5 hours per week) starting in July (8 weeks) are offered to eligible nursing students who have successfully completed at least three years of a recognized Bachelor of Nursing. 

Program is subject to change based on budget approval.

What is the deadline to apply?

Applications will be accepted until 11:59pm AST on February 15th, 2026.

What do I need to complete the online request form?

In addition to your current contact information, you will be asked to provide:

  • A name and contact information for the individual supervising the student(s);
  • The name of your health care facility and worksite/department;
  • The number of 3rd year students you are able to hire; and,
  • A list of duties the student(s) will be expected to perform.

Do I have to pay the student(s) salary?

Private Nursing Home Facilities are required to enter into a Collaborative Agreement with the Government of Prince Edward Island.  One condition of the agreement is a commitment to provide 50% of the students wages as defined in the Agreement. 

When will I know if a student has been placed at our site for the summer?

You will receive confirmation of student placements in early May, 2026.
