Potatoes

Islanders have been growing potatoes since the late 1700s, and the tradition continues today with about 330 growers currently working. The most commonly grown potatoes are russets, which are perfect for French fries, mashed potatoes, and scalloped potatoes. Numerous varieties of red, white, and yellow potatoes are also popular.

Potatoes from Prince Edward Island are shipped to over 20 countries annually, including the United States, Puerto Rico, Ukraine, Italy, Thailand, and more.

Mussels

Prince Edward Island is Canada’s top producer and exporter of rope cultured blue mussels, accounting for 80 per cent of overall production.

PEI Mussels are known worldwide for their outstanding quality and are quickly becoming one of North America’s most popular seafoods.
