Search Vital Records

You can request a search for the following vital records:

  • Birth and stillbirth  
  • Marriage or non-marriage confirmation
  • Death 
  • Change of name

What information will a search provide?

A search will simply confirm or deny that an event was registered or recorded in the province. It will not provide you with personal information from the record or any certified document.

How long are records stored at Vital Statistics?

Vital Statistics will hold vital records as follows:

  • Birth records-120 years
  • Stillbirth or death records-50 years
  • Marriage – 75 years

After the specific period of time, Vital Statistics will transfer vital records to the provincial archivist to be available to the public in accordance with the Archives and Records Act.

Is there a fee for the search?

You must pay a basic search fee for every period spanning up to three years. If you request a search over a period five years will require payment equal to the amount of two search fees.

If you want to confirm the registration of a specific individual or event, submit full payment and the completed Search of PEI Vital Record Request

If you are seeking information for statistical purposes, submit the completed Vital Statistics Data Request Form.
