International Registration for Commercial Vehicles

Le contenu suivant est seulement disponible en anglais.

If you are operating a commercial vehicle in both Canada and United States with PEI as your base jurisdiction, you must register your vehicle under the International Registration Plan through Prince Edward Island Highway Safety. This applies to vehicles (including buses) over 11,794 kgs or power units having three or more axles, regardless of weight traveling in two or more jurisdictions.

The International Registration Plan (IRP) is a cooperative agreement between the United States and Canada which allows commercial vehicles to move freely within a participating jurisdiction, i.e. state, province or territory, or from one jurisdiction to another.

When you register under the plan, you are issued one licence plate and one cab card. The licence fee, based on the total travel distance, is shared among all IRP member jurisdictions you plan to travel.

The plate is identified by PRP, PR or Apportioned.

For detailed information download Atlantic Provinces, IRP Apportioned Registration Carrier Manual.

Full Reciprocity Plan in effect for 2015
The Full Reciprocity Plan (FRP) will simplify the IRP for all new fleets and fleet registrations with effective dates of Jan. 1, 2015, or later.
