Under the authority of the Public Health Act, the Chief Public Health Officer may issue a health order when a hazard exists that increases the public’s risk of illness, disease and/or injury.

A health hazard can also be a dangerous condition, object, or activity that may cause injury or sickness, or it might not meet health and safety rules meant to protect people.

As part of certain Public Health Act orders, the Chief Public Health Officer may provide public notice of an order by any means of communication that the Chief Public Health Officer considers will make it known to the majority of the members of the public or class of persons who should receive notice of that order, as the case may be.
