Mandatory Vaccination Policy for Apprentices Attending Holland College

Mandatory Vaccination Requirement for Holland College

Holland College, in consultation with the Chief Public Health Office and college and university colleagues across the region, has determined a mandatory vaccination policy is the best way to ensure that our programs can be delivered face-to-face, minimize disruption of classes, and protect the safety of the Holland College community.  Holland College requires mandatory full vaccination of all staff, faculty, and students.

Apprentices participating in block release training at Holland College must be fully vaccinated prior to starting their on-campus training. The Summerside Waterfront Campus already hosts a provincial vaccination clinic and accepts walk-in clients without appointments. Follow-up clinics will be scheduled if required.

Exemptions to mandatory vaccination will be granted for medical, religious, or cultural reasons only. Those who are exempt will be tested weekly and will be required to wear masks at all times when they are in a Holland College location.  We continue to encourage wearing masks for everyone in Holland College locations who prefer to do so, but they will not be mandatory for fully vaccinated staff, faculty, and students. Please be aware that proof of full vaccination may be required.

Do I have to leave my job to attend in-school training?

Yes, your employer will release you to attend in-school training and allow you to return to work following the training.

Please Note:  For the Welder and Machinist Blended Learning Project, there is no requirement for EI eligibility and apprentices remain working while attending training.  Please contact your training officer for more information.

Am I eligible to attend training with cost assistance?

In order to attend block release training and have Skills PEI pay for your training you must:

  1. be a registered apprentice with the PEI Apprenticeship Section, Province of Prince Edward Island;
  2. be eligible for Employment Insurance; and
  3. be unemployed at the beginning of training.

Please Note:  For the Welder and Machinist Blended Learning Project, there is no requirement for EI eligibility and apprentices remain working while attending training.  Please contact your training officer for more information.

How long will it take to complete the registration?

It will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. You must complete the form in one sitting because the form cannot be saved.

Apprentices and employers should discuss the schedule before the apprentice registers for training.

The following class schedule for apprenticeship (block-release) training may be adjusted depending on response. If registration is below the minimum number, a class may be cancelled or, where possible, combined with another class. You will be notified if the schedule changes after you have registered.

Please note: for maximum benefit from in-school apprenticeship training, the suggested number of hours in your log book should be:

  • Block 1: 1620 hrs
  • Block 2: 3240 hrs
  • Block 3: 4860 hrs
  • Block 4: 6480 hrs
