Graduate Mentorship Program - For Job Seekers

The Graduate Mentorship Program is an employment program to help unemployed recent post secondary graduates develop new skills and gain work experience in their field of study through on the job training. A temporary wage subsidy is provided to an employer to create long term employment opportunities and assist with the cost of hiring and training a new employee. At the end of the wage subsidy, the employee should be fully productive and contributing to the success of the business.

Who is Eligible to Participate?

If you are unemployed, a recent post secondary graduate within the last five years and looking for full time employment you are eligible to apply.

  • You must be legally authorized to work in Canada;
  • Other criteria may apply.

How do I Apply?

You must apply directly with the employer. The employer will interview and select a candidate for the position. If you are selected, the employer will submit an application to SkillsPEI requesting a temporary wage subsidy to hire you. SkillsPEI will contact you to discuss the next steps which will include meeting with a case manager to complete a needs assessment and develop a Return-To-Work Action Plan. To assess your application SkillsPEI will need:

  • Completed Graduate Mentorship Program Application for Individuals;
  • Return-To-Work Action Plan prepared by your case manager;
  • Resume;
  • SkillsPEI consent form;
  • Copy of degree or diploma.

When is my Application Due?

You must submit your application package and receive confirmation from SkillsPEI that you have been approved for the program before you start your new job.

How does the Program Work?

SkillsPEI will reimburse your new employer for a portion of your wages during the on-the-job training period. You will be paid by your employer and you will have the same rights and responsibilities as any other employee.
