Community Energy Solutions

To help communities become more sustainable, we are expanding energy efficiency solutions to businesses, community centres, agricultural operations and more. These incentives help with energy efficiency advice and rebates so these organizations can be efficiency leaders in their community.

How to apply

  1. Apply before you begin your project. Send the application form to efficiencyPEI along with copies of the last 12 months of electricity and heating fuel bills and your payee registration form
  2. efficiencyPEI will assess your application and connect you with an energy auditor for a free commercial energy audit. Once the audit is complete, send in your audit and quotes for the project.
  3. efficiencyPEI will notify you of approval to begin work. If your organization could benefit from a custom community energy solution, efficiencyPEI will be in touch to discuss further.

Incentives

Community Energy Solutions may cover up to 50 per cent of the total energy efficiency upgrade cost, up to $25,000. These incentives could help with energy savings projects like upgrades to heating systems, optimizing ventilation, thermostats and controls, and more.

Incentives are equal to the lower of the following:

  • 1x annual savings
  • 50 per cent cost of project
  • $25,000

Larger operations (using more than 350,000 kWh annually) may be eligible for custom energy solutions which can include funding for a feasibility study and access to an onsite energy manager. An onsite energy manager is a dedicated energy expert that will work with the client toward reducing the building’s energy consumption. They will track energy savings to ensure the project is performing as planned. Investing in energy efficiency will reduce your energy consumption and help you manage your operating costs.

Eligibility

Buildings owned and operated by businesses, institutions, municipalities or non-profits may be eligible.

Applicants will get a free energy audit by one of our approved energy auditors.

If your organization has any special projects in mind, make sure you let your energy auditor know. Once your energy audit is complete, you will get a list of project recommendations along with estimated savings and cost. Most projects that reduce energy consumption will qualify.

All projects must be approved before purchase or install and you must have a signed agreement with efficiencyPEI to begin. Businesses and organizations remain eligible for Business Energy Rebates and Solar Electric Rebates

Up to 100% funding is available for eligible community centres to install heat pumps through the Community Revitalization Program.
