Promoting Wellness, Preserving Health Action Plan Implementation Council

The Seniors Health and Wellness Action Plan addresses the challenges and opportunities presented by a changing population demographic.

What is the function of the council?

The implementation council shall:

  • Champion and support collaboration to promote wellness and preserve health for seniors, near seniors and caregivers;
  • Create a work plan to accomplish the action items identified in the Promoting Wellness, Preserving Health Action Plan in a timely manner;
  • Establish and participate on project Task Teams;
  • Provide advice to ministries, agencies and non-government organizations identifying opportunities and barriers to achieving progress on the action plan;
  • Create opportunities for seniors, near seniors and caregivers to continue to inform the work of government in improving the health and wellness of Islanders;
  • Provide progress reports to the Minister of Social Development and Housing, Minister of Health and Wellness, the CEO of Health PEI, senior leaders and the public.

How many people are on the council?

The Council shall be comprised of a maximum of members appointed by the Minister of Social Development and Housing and the Minister of Health and Wellness. Membership will include representation from government departments with responsibility for action items identified in the action plan.

What are the requirements of council members?

Council members are required to:

  • Attend meetings on a regular basis;
  • Participate at meetings and work with other members to develop solutions;
  • Offer information and share perspectives while respecting confidentiality;
  • Participate in project task teams.

Skills and Experience Required

To support the Council to do its work each member should have the ability to represent one or more of the following perspectives or contribute one or more of the following skills:

  • Communication skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Experience in working with groups on projects
  • Decision making capabilities
  • Board experience
  • Experience as a caregiver
  • Rural and urban perspectives
  • Knowledge, understanding and interest in senior’s issues

Will I be paid?

Council members serve as volunteers and receive no remuneration. Mileage to cover travel costs to attend meetings will be paid.

What is the time commitment of the council?

Meetings will be held on a monthly basis or as determined by the co-chairs, meeting may be more or less frequent. Meetings will last for approximately two hours. The Implementation Council will exist until March 2021 at which time a review of Council activities will be provided to the Ministers of Social Development and Housing and Health and Wellness.

Members are appointed for a two year term.
