Needle Exchange Program and Naloxone Kits
The Needle Exchange Program is available in communities across the province to prevent the spread of Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV – diseases that can be transmitted by sharing equipment to inject drugs. Naloxone kits are also available at all sites to prevent opioid-related overdoses.
The program is a harm reduction initiative and offers services such as:
- needle exchange with safe needle disposal
- immunization counselling and immunization
- vein/wound care
- sexual health counselling
- health teaching to support optimal health including referrals to other care providers and detox information
- naloxone kits for people who are at risk of opioid-related overdoses
