The Municipal Government Act sets out specific requirements for the Resort Municipality of Stanley Bridge, Hope River, Bayview, Cavendish and North Rustico including council composition and voter eligibility.

The Resort Municipality's general municipal election will be Monday, August 10, 2026. Visit the Resort Municipality's webpage.

Who is Eligible to vote in the Resort Municipality?

If you are new to the municipality, contact the Resort Municipality to be register to vote. You may be required to complete a declaration.

You can vote in the Resort Municipality if you are over the age of 18, a Canadian citizen, have lived in PEI for the six-month period before the day of the election, and

  1. ordinarily a resident in the Resort on the day of the election; or
  2. a non-resident property electors (you are not ordinarily resident but who are the registered owner of land in the municipality on or before the day of the election); or
  3. the individual who has been designated as the voter on behalf of the corporation or co-operative association.

What do I need to bring to vote?

Electors must bring identification (ID) or documents with their name and address.  Electors can bring one piece of government ID with their name and address OR two pieces of ID or documents with their name on both and address on at least one.

Electors that cannot prove their current address can bring two pieces of ID with their name and sign a declaration at the poll.     

Who is eligible to run in the election?

The Resort Municipality allows residents and non-resident property electors as councillors.

However, where a non-resident property elector is a corporation or an incorporated co-operative association, only an individual has an ownership or membership interest of at least 25 per cent in the corporation or incorporated co-operative association and meets all other nomination criteria for candidacy in the Resort Municipality is permitted to be nominated as a candidate.

At least half of the council members of the Resort Municipality will be required to be ordinarily resident in the municipality.
