Nominations open for environmental awards

Islanders who make outstanding contributions to protecting and enhancing the environment deserve to be nominated for an environmental award.

The Prince Edward Island Environmental Advisory Council is inviting nominations for the annual Environmental Awards. There are three award categories: individual, organization and school. Nominations are open until May 1 at Environmental Award Nominations or by phone at (902) 368-5024.

“Stewardship of the environment is a shared responsibility of people and governments in which we all have a role to play,” said Communities, Land and Environment Minister Richard Brown. “These awards recognize the hard work and commitment of many individuals and groups across the Island to the protection and enhancement of our environment in so many ways.”

To be eligible for an award, the individual, organization or school must be instrumental in identifying, reducing, solving or avoiding an environmental problem; demonstrating consistently responsible environmental management practices; and/or promoting public awareness, understanding and active concern for the protection and enhancement of the environment. In addition, the review committee will also consider the nominees’ long-term service and commitment, voluntary contributions and innovative approaches.

Award recipients will be chosen by a review committee composed of members of the Environmental Advisory Council.
