The Department of Agriculture is dedicated to ensuring the growth, resilience and sustainability of Prince Edward Island's agricultural industry.  

Some of the department’s responsibilities include:

  • Growing and sustaining all elements of agriculture on PEI
  • Working with farmers to ensure that their locally grown products continue to place PEI among the world leaders in food production and innovation
  • Reducing barriers for the next generation of farmers
  • Ensuring food safety and animal health and welfare
  • Delivering business risk management programs to support the financial stability of agricultural producers
