Statement by Premier Dennis King on National Direct Support Professionals Week

Dennis King, Premier of Prince Edward Island issued the following statement on National Direct Support Professionals Week, September 12-18, 2021:

“National Direct Support Professionals Week is a time to recognize and express appreciation for all the people who work directly supporting our friends, family and neighbors with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities.

Across PEI there is a dedicated and compassionate workforce that supports and helps empower Islanders with disabilities. The COVID 19 pandemic has not so much redefined, but rather further solidified, our thoughts on the value of Direct Support Professionals. This year has been like no other and these professionals have remained on the front-line supporting individuals and their families.

Prince Edward Island is fortunate to have outstanding organizations working to ensure all Islanders have equal opportunities to fully participate as active members of our community and achieve their full potential.

We are thankful for these organizations, their staff, volunteers, and the supports and services they provide. Their invaluable work makes a real difference and helps create more caring communities in Prince Edward Island.”
