Work begins to move Morell early years children into the school
Moving children from Morell’s Early Years Centre into the consolidated school next door will increase space and improve programming.
Construction will be finished this summer so there will be no disruption for students and educators. The Morell Early Childhood Development Centre has been located in mobiles next to Morell Consolidated School for several years, but it has outgrown the space and the mobiles need significant repair.
“Morell parents want to keep their children together and asked government to ensure that the Early Years Centre remains close to the school,” Education, Early Learning and Culture Minister Jordan Brown said. “Fortunately, there is space available in the school and we are pleased to provide funding of $240,000 in the capital budget for renovations that will allow the EYC to be housed in the school.”
The Early Years Centre will enter into a leasing agreement with the Public Schools Branch for the use of the space. Administrators, teachers, and early childhood educators have been consulted on the design and floor plans. The construction work is being done by Sperra Construction.
