The Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP)

The Next Policy Framework (NPF) for Agriculture - 2018-2023

Consultations Report

Over the past two years, the Department of Agriculture and Land has been evaluating and collecting feedback on existing Growing Forward 2 (GF2) programming and identifying opportunities for the next agriculture policy framework for agriculture which is known as the Canadian Agriculture Partnership (CAP)

The results of that feedback have been compiled into a consultations report.

What is the  Canadian Agriculture Partnership?

An agricultural policy framework is an agreement that outlines policy and program priorities for the agriculture industry across Canada. The current agricultural policy framework, known as Growing Forward 2, expires in 2018 and will be replaced by a new agreement being referred to as the Canadian Agriculture Partnership (sometimes informally referred to as Next Policy Framework (NPF)). This framework is a $3 billion investment in Canada’s agriculture, agri-food and agri-based products sector.

Why was feedback collected?

Feedback from the agriculture industry, stakeholders and the public will help the federal and provincial government deliver programs through the CAP that meet the specific needs of the Island’s agriculture industry.

Priority areas include:

  • Markets and trade
  • Science, research and innovation
  • Risk Management
  • Environmental sustainability and climate change
  • Value-added agriculture and agri-food processing
  • Public trust

How was feedback for the CAP collected?

Feedback was collected through:

  • The Growing Forward 2 Program Evaluation completed by PEIDAF in 2016
  • A consultation session with industry representatives held on December 1, 2016
  • Meetings with stakeholders
  • An online public feedback survey (from January – April 2017)
