Hepatitis Drug Program
If you have been diagnosed with hepatitis or have been in close contact with someone who has hepatitis, you may be eligible for coverage of approved medication costs through the Hepatitis Drug Program.
Am I eligible?
You are eligible for this program if you
- are a PEI resident as defined by the Drug Cost Assistance Act;
- have a valid PEI Health Card;
- been diagnosed with hepatitis;
- been in close contact with a person diagnosed with hepatitis; or
- an occupational risk of infection.
How do I apply?
Your physician will consult and refer you to the appropriate contact for enrolment.
How much of the medication cost will be covered?
If you have been diagnosed with hepatitis or have come in close contact with someone diagnosed with hepatitis, all costs of approved medications are covered by the program.
What if my medication is not listed in the PEI Pharmacare Formulary?
If your medication is not included in the PEI Pharmacare Formulary, it will not be eligible for cost coverage. Special Authorization requests will not be considered under this program. You will only be eligible for coverage of the approved medications through the Hepatitis Drug Program.
Where can I get my medication?
Once you are registered with the program, medications may be accessed through either Provincial Pharmacy, a health care clinic or a local Health PEI Public Nursing office, depending on the medication.
Will I get a refund for medication I already purchased?
Coverage is not retroactive, you will not be reimbursed for medications you have already purchased.
If your medication is not provided by Provincial Pharmacy, you will not be reimbursed for medications filled at an alternate pharmacy.
What if I move away from PEI?
Eligibility for this program will end the day you leave PEI to take up residency elsewhere.
